How to Draw a Duc Cute and Easy

Drawing animals is one of my favorite things to do. Part of it is because I'm such an avid animal lover and the other is that they make for the best subjects. This is why I want to share my step-by-step guide on how to draw a duck.

I wish that I selected Donald duck as my subject but I'll save that for another day.

What you'll learn in this duck drawing is how to shape limbs and draw small but significant elements as accurately as possible.

With that being said, let's not waste any time and get straight into this tutorial on how to draw a duck.

Reference

I found a really cute looking image of the following duck and it actually looks like it's posing. We'll ignore the background elements and focus solely on our subject.

There's some grass and leaves obstructing our duck's feet but I've made sure to exclude that from our duck drawing and drew its feet as accurately as I could.

Steps For Drawing A Duck

Step 1

In this drawing, we'll start with the beak and work our way down its body. For the beak, you want to curve it sharply down the tip until it looks like that of a pen nib.

Add a parallel line to the bottom of your beak that flows exactly as the other.

Step 2

Extend both bottom lines by a cm or two. We're going to complete the beak by adding what looks like a small rectangle shape on the upper right half which is the nose. Fill this in.

Close off the mouth and nose area with a line that curves inwards.

Step 3

step 3

Since we completed the beak and nose, we can easily draw the head and neck. From the first point of your beak, right above the nose, draw a long and rounded line.

Underneath the beak, draw another rounded line much like the one above that's shorter.

Step 4

step 4

We're going to continue drawing the neck by extending both lines in the direction of their respective curves.

However, I want you to start rounding the inner line beyond the neck while stopping on the outer line halfway through.

Step 5

step 5

In this step, we are going to start drawing our duck's wing and stomach. From both ends of your two lines, extend the two of them towards the right or in the opposite direction.

The wing should come to an end by simply drawing a short vertical line facing down.

Step 6

Now, I want to add legs for our duck. From where our line stops at the bottom, add two parallel vertical lines with the left line connecting with the stomach.

Proceed to draw its feet like I have above. Add another foot with two vertical lines first that are more or less connected to the stomach itself.

Step 7

To complete your duck legs, we just need to add some details in the shape of two or three lines that connect to each other like a triangle.

Where the two parallel lines end, add a rounded line that extends beyond the leg.

Step 8

Now, we're getting close to finishing our duck drawing and it's time to close it off with it's tail.

For the tail, we just need to draw what looks like leaves or tall grass.

You can play around with these lines as you like so long as they are all connected to each other and fill out the empty space.

Just remember, ducks have really short tails so these feathers should not extend more than a few cm.

Step 9

To distinguish between the stomach from the wings, we need to add feathers and as you can tell, they look sort of fluffed together and rounded in the reference image.

So, draw a bunch of interconnected long semi-circles. You want to have two rows of these feathers that are close to each other and near the tail.

Step 10

For the last step of our duck drawing, we will be adding an eye. Let's start with one upwardly curved line about a cm in length.

From the outer end point, draw another curved line 3/4 of the way.

Fill in this inner space and leave one spot uncolored.

There you have it! If you reached this point, you've successfully drawn a duck. Add some color to the beak and feet to wrap this drawing up.
